The biggest visible change from BB-48 as designed would be the addition of some 5” and 1.1” AA guns but their AA rating would be relatively poor compared to contemporaries. Perhaps it would be better to have Kansas represent the class with a more limited modernization but with the correct 16”/50 caliber Mark 2 guns. I’m not aware of any preliminary designs between the Colorado and South Dakota classes which might better fit here. Overall, I'm not very fond of this "downgraded" South Dakota variant although it does keep some of the original appearance of the class which is a nice touch. Oddly enough these are listed as “Mark 7” guns yet the Mark 7 was the later 50 caliber length gun used by the Iowa class. Yet for some reason the armament consists of twelve 16"/45 guns instead of the 16"/50 Mark 2 guns which AFAIK were always the intended armament for the class. T8 (USS Kansas) is clearly based off the unfinished 1920s South Dakota class of battleship with a theoretical modernization to WWII standards. In their current state I'm not quite certain what these ships are intended to do other than serve as XP pinatas.īut lets step back for a moment and look at the ships themselves and how much sense they make from a "historical" perspective. Their belt armor is 13.5" but vertical which isn't very impressive for those tiers, but all the belt armor in the world won't save you from HE spam which is probably their greatest vulnerability. With a top speed of only 23 knots and 32mm plating covering much of the ship they are very appealing target for HE spamming ships, especially light cruisers which won't have much trouble hitting such a large and slow target. While they all have a powerful main battery of twelve guns, they have an abysmal rate of fire (40 second reload) and their accuracy isn't very impressive. While I haven't gotten a chance to try the ships myself sightings of them on the seas and their last known stats do not paint a pretty picture.
